For the first part to our 'ANCILLARY TASK' we had to analyze short film posters that we each liked and we analyzed them looking at the main aspects such as main image, colour scheme, layout, text, lighting etc. We had to assess the reason behind us liking the poster and what drew our attention to the poster in first place. Additionally, we would see which type of feature that we as a group liked the most and would inspire us to use in our own short film poster for 'DOPPELGANGER'.
Analysis 1
For our first analysis we did, we analyzed it as a group during a lesson. Initially we analyzed the poster roughly looking at each aspect of the poster in vague detail. Overall we found that this poster kept a sense of mystery for the audience to think about which really intrigued us, making us consider this aspect in our group short film poster:
MAIN IMAGE: Is of a female character, she may be the main character in this short film from the way she is dressed she looks like a school girl all alone perceiving to the audience that she is playing a vulnerable character within this short film.
TEXT: The typography used for the main title of this short film is put in bold and white this means that the creator/designer of this poster wanted the audience to notice it as it stand out from the shadow and dark colours used on the right hand-side of the poster. Additionally, the main title of the film is not easily understandable for the audience which makes the audience put together the ideas from the poster to understand what the short film could consist of.
LAYOUT: The layout of this to an extent can be seen as different to generic posters that are usually seen. The image is placed on the right-hand side of the poster and the main title is placed on the left hand side next to the main image drawing the audience attention to both the main image and the main title.
COLOUR SCHEME: - Dark and warm toned colours, their are quite a lot of shadow so the majority of the poster is black.
LIGHTING: - Throughout the poster their is a lot of low lights creating the shadow. On the other hand their is a lot of light focusing of the main image and character on the poster creating importance on her like she is under a spotlight/ she is the important character.

Analysis 2
The other poster analysis that we did was done by (Karen Nguyen). She roughly did an initial analysis of this poster shown above, however I disliked the way It presented so i re-did the same poster and presented it better then the first time. The thing that we liked about this poster was that the layout of it did not follow generic layouts seen in mainstream posters it seems like a very contemporary poster and i want to try to portray this through our group poster:
MAIN IMAGE : The main image is not an image of any character withing the short film. But it does link to the short film itself because it is titled 'NEAL' and their is an object on the right hand corner of the poster associating this object with the film itself.
TEXT: The text used for the main title blends in with the main image or the background itself. It does not really stand out that much to the audience however it does go really well with the theme and the main image itself.
SLOGAN: This is one of the four posters that has a tagline displayed on the poster 'DANGER LURKS BENEATH THE WATER'- this gives an audience a glimpse of what the short film may consist of it also goes with the main image as it looks like the image is at the bottom of a pool the camera is at a low angle shot looking up to the surface showing the relationship between the slogan and the image.
LAYOUT: The layout of this short film poster does not follow generic layouts it is quite scattered their are different elements throughout the poster.
COLOUR SCHEME: Warm blue tones.
LIGHTING: The lighting of this poster is gradient from high lighting to low lighting.

Analysis 3
The second short film poster that I analysed was 'CHIEF'. This poster was really simplistic and quite generic which I did not like however I really like the colour scheme of this poster as it is simple but really effective to me as it is not too much and overwhelming like other posters
MAIN IMAGE: The main image is of a male character he maybe the main character or one of the character within the short film it is a long shot however the audience can only see the mid-section of the male character. From the image the male character looks like a native american/Aztec.
TEXT: The text of this poster is very simple like the poster itself, it has Aztec features correlating with the main character used in this poster. it uses regular text which is not that eye catching to the audience, on the other hand the image helps the audience understand what this short film about with the feature of the Aztec pattern.
LAYOUT: This poster uses generic poster layout with the main title at the top of the page the main image in the center with award and other information below. The poster is too generic and simple it does not stand out from other posters.
COLOUR SCHEME: On one hand, as a group we really like the blue tone colours and grey colour used within the poster its really simple yet effect to the audience and would go really well with our film.
LIGHTING: The lighting throughout this poster is LOW keeping with the ombre effect of the poster.

Analysis 4
The final poster that we looked at was this short film poster above, 'SIDE EFFECTS'. The one thing we liked about this poster was that it used two images merged very nicely together to show aspects of what the short film consists of it is really effective to the audience.
MAIN IMAGE: In this poster they have decided to use two images which are merged into one. We like this poster because of the way the creator used such a grasping top image with bottom extreme long shot showing a connection between the two images. It is also interesting that all the other poster analysis that we looked at only had one main image whereas, this poster has two images making it different from conventional posters.
TEXT: The text used for the headline of this poster is very simple however, It works very effectively with the two images as the headline brings the two images together. Although quite plain it works in favour to the images and still grasps the audiences attention.
LAYOUT: The layout of the poster is quite generic as it has the headline in the centre of the poster which conventional posters use to grab the audiences attention. With images either side of the text and adding further text at the bottom with the details of producers and directors.
COLOUR SCHEME: This poster uses quite cool tone colours, which consists of light greens, whites and yellow tones. The poster overall is quite muted, it does not scream for much attention however the mellow colours are very calming and can draw these types of audiences.
LIGHTING: The lighting through out the poster is quite high as the below image is relatively bright compared to the image above which seem to have low lighting probably trying to show the audience the opposition between these images.
